Constant Tools

5min

This Tool does not extract values from the document, but instead allows you to associate a predefined value, generally one that wouldn’t otherwise be stated, with a record. This helps you better understand the context of your extracted values and if applicable, helps you better align output from a Smart Pattern with your database or other end-system.

A good example of the possibilities presented by Constant Tools is in defining which section a set of extracted entities belongs to. We will use the following example for this tool.

To create a Constant Tool:

  • Under Pattern Studio, click on “Kits”
  • Create a Kit
  • Give your Kit a name and associate it with a schema
  • For this example, I have made two Kits for the two different Constant Tools that will be associated with both Cash Flow and Income

  • Once the desired Kits are made, navigate to the Tools section
  • Within this section, select the schema field that you would like to associate the string(s) with and click Add Tool

  • Once clicked, a pop up will appear to give you access to the different Tools that is at your disposal

  • After selecting the Constant Tool, you will be shown a Text Box where you will be entering your string(s) that you would like to associate with the appriopriate records
    • Remember: Whatever you enter in Constant Tool is whatever will be placed in the Field
    • In the case of Subschemas, this value will repeat for every value the Kit produces
  • For this example, I will be entering "Cash Flow" into the text box that I have selected for my Cash Flow Kit, and "Income" for my Income Kit
